BUILD THE FUTURE

The Role

Effective logistics is critical for Tesla to function. Considering Master Plan, Part Deux, logistics will be even more essential to the future Tesla will create.

We currently move raw materials and components, and we manufacture vehicles and energy products. As we scale global operations and create new products, every aspect of our logistics will expand. From an autonomous shared fleet, to trucks and the Tesla semi, we will be able to redefine what logistics means.

As a Data Scientist on the Tesla logistics team, you will help us define this future, and realize it. You will be central to transforming operations into an efficient model that only Tesla can create. You will be a key thought partner in building the future.

Responsibilities

·           Immerse yourself in Tesla’s logistics data, becoming a subject-matter expert and elevating data into a first-class citizen.

·           Inform the strategy behind data generation and data collection – eg what new data should we collect, what trends are we missing, and where else can we be creative?

·           Write reproducible data analysis over petabytes of data.

·           Leverage and contribute to open source technologies, informing how we iterate and enhance existing tools.

·           Design, create, and train models that predict future performance, and identify opportunities for optimization.

·           Collaborate with data engineers and data analysts to design and iterate on ETL’s that enable ad hoc research, dashboard creation, and net new applications.

·           Give talks, contribute to open source projects, and advance data science and logistics on a global scale.

·           Educate others on statistical analysis and scientific investigation.

Requirements

·         Evidence of exceptional ability in the set (or a subset) of engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, and operations research.

·         4+ years of building models and developing algorithms for real-world experiments and data-driven optimizations.

·         Depth in linear algebra, algorithms, machine learning, data mining, causal inference and other quantitative tools.

·         Mastery of data access and manipulation across databases such as SQL, NoSQL, Postgres, Redshift, etc.

·         Expertise doing statistics and mathematics analysis via tools such as Python, R, Matlab, SAS, and associated machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, keras, PyTorch, etc.

·         Expertise measuring and iterating to improve model performance.

·         Experience with experimental design and A/B testing is desirable.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

·         Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.

·         Well organized with attention to detail.
