Vehicle Test Technician - ADAS | Tesla Motors

Vehicle Test Technician - ADAS

Req. ID
Job Type
Tesla's Mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

The Role

A Vehicle Testing Technician helps accelerate Tesla’s vehicle testing programs in two ways: supporting the test team with vehicle preparation and executing vehicle-level tests.

Fundamentals – We hire people with a strong problem-solving mindset, and we expect you to use it. Understanding vehicle dynamics (such as brake and steering systems) and electronic systems (such as radar, cameras, wireless communications, and differential GPS) are preferred; no matter what level. Previous experience with chassis dynamometers is also desirable. You must be grounded in fundamentals to make decisions based on logic and theory, not legacy and historical knowledge.

Mentality – This is not a “do your job title” position. We are looking for the Tesla spirit; to advance the adoption of electric vehicles. Every action you take should be grounded in this. We need to push the boundaries of what the industry leaders think is possible, and to do this you need to have a mentality that reaches beyond what your job title might require.

Experience – We are looking for people who have had experience in small teams doing multiple jobs, such as: “wrenching” on vehicles, installing test instrumentation, conducting vehicle-level testing, and reporting issues and results. Experience is a bonus trait that builds on fundamentals - it is not a replacement. Understanding all aspects of vehicle testing from prototype to market launch is irreplaceable in a strong candidate. The ability and confidence to drive vehicles at (and above) their limit on closed-courses also helps, and will be required at some time during your work at Tesla.

We are a technically driven team with minimal functional management - everyone is expected to be self-driven and we will do our best to guide you toward projects which suit your strength. This position is best suited to someone who enjoys a variety of new challenges, a hands-on environment and traveling to various proving grounds (could be up to 60%).

About Tesla

Tesla is accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable transportation and electricity consumption by designing and manufacturing electric vehicles and energy storage systems. Based in California, Tesla employs more than 13,000 people across four continents, and manufactures cars at our factory in Fremont, California. We are currently constructing the Gigafactory–the world’s largest lithium ion battery factory–in Sparks, Nevada, and have begun production of Tesla Energy battery storage products.

Tesla Motors currently produces two premium EVs–Model S and Model X–engineered from the ground up to be the world’s best car and SUV, respectively. Model S received Motor Trend’s prestigious 2013 Car of the Year, and achieved the best safety score of any car ever tested by the NHTSA. The recently released Model X includes the first ever falcon wing doors, as well as Tesla’s award-winning electric all-wheel drive powertrain. Both vehicles come with free road trip access to more than 400 Tesla Supercharger stations—the world’s fastest EV charging technology. Model 3, our third generation EV, is currently under development.

Tesla Energy produces the Powerwall, a residential battery pack, as well as commercial and utility-grade Powerpack storage systems designed to help reduce electricity costs, smooth consumption and create a more resilient electricity grid.

Tesla is committed to hiring and developing top talent from across the world for any given discipline. Our world-class teams operate with a non-conventional product development philosophy of high inter-disciplinary collaboration, flat organizational structure, and technical contribution at all levels. You will be expected to challenge and to be challenged, to create, and to innovate. These jobs are not for everyone; you must have a genuine passion for producing the best vehicles in the world. Without passion, you will find what we’re trying to do too difficult.
