The Role
The Tesla Insurance Services division has an
outstanding opportunity for a skilled attorney provide insurance regulatory
advice and counsel on complex insurance legal matters. Experience advising and
developing compliance requirements for a fast growing business on regulatory
issues and putting systems into place to meet those requirements is essential.
Responsibilities will include coordination of
insurance licensing and product filings and management of other insurance
regulatory matters, interaction with regulators, drafting of policies and other
governance documents, drafting and reviewing agency and other
insurance-related, and other commercial agreements. Considers the long-term
business and strategic consequences of possible outcomes as well as understanding
the business partner's position and needs. Will actively identify and logically
assesses potential legal risks in both routine and ambiguous, unique and/or complex
business situations. Will be able to create valuable risk
management/mitigation recommendations leveraging sound risk assessment
information to further achieve complex business objectives while also providing
input on key insurance business decisions. Creates practical and effective
solutions to complex legal issues with no established precedent; develops
creative solutions to unique legal problems.
Must be a self-starter able to accomplish short
and long-term organizational objectives with an opportunity for a wide range of
independent work based on demonstrated ability. We are looking for an
individual with experience specific to insurance regulatory matters, preferably
with a property and casualty company, a large law firm or an in-house
equivalent. Experience with start-ups or reciprocal insurers is not required,
but preferred. This position will be located in Fremont, CA.
Responsibilities
• Provides expert advice on routine and complex legal matters for
insurance;
• Regularly attends business partner meetings to better understand
business processes;
• Keeps senior leaders at Tesla Insurance Services informed on developments and
upcoming tasks;
• Drafts necessary legal documents and develops conclusions and
recommendations;
• Actively identifies and logically assesses potential legal risks
in both routine and ambiguous, unique and/or complex business situations;
• Manage and negotiate contracts on behalf of the insurance division
in conjunction with Tesla Insurance Services;
• Manage and oversee insurance policy rate and form filings;
• Manage and oversee market conduct and financial exams;
• Oversee preparation of other regulatory filings;
• Partner and interact with state insurance regulators;
• Oversee monitoring of insurance laws and insurance department
actions;
• Effectively work in a team environment, closely collaborate and
provide team support with peers across legal, compliance and other control
functions
Requirements
- J.D.
required
- Excellent
academic credentials from a top-ranked law school
- Overseas
education and/or work experience preferred
- Minimum
of 10 years’ experience with a top-tier international law firm or top
multinational company
- People
management experience
- Ability
to make sound business decisions quickly and in the face of ambiguity and
uncertainty
- Strong
command of the details of relevant laws and regulations, but with an
ability to make these laws and regulations understandable and actionable
for a business audience
- Ability
to manage and prioritize multiple projects with multiple teams
simultaneously
