Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for
Tesla Vehicle and Energy platforms
- Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing
Engineering, New Product Introduction, and Operations partners to gather
and develop packaging requirements
- Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive
projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without
sacrificing part quality or manufacturability
- Provide design direction and development plans of
protective packaging containers, dunnage and unique shipping racks –
domestic and international
- Monitor KPI’s and work with Packaging Design
Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards and continue to
improve upon them
- Drive expendable to returnable projects and
participate in sustainability initiatives
- Manage project budgets, risks, and change
management
- Assist in vendor selection and vendor management
Requirements:
- Working knowledge of CAD, and technical drawings,
including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes
including machining, welding, injection molding etc.
- Strong knowledge in a large variety of materials
(aluminum, steel, composites, foam, etc.)
- Experience with designing to standards such as
ASTM, Mil-Spec, etc.
- Strong understanding of packaging testing and
validation
- Capable of managing multiple priorities at once
without sacrificing quality of results
- Proficient at risk management and communication
- Team player with strong process and continuous
improvement mindset
