The Role:
Tesla has an immediate opening for an Associate Manager to join the Battery Line Production Engineering team at the Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany. We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, skilled, cost-conscious, team-oriented individual to be responsible for the performance of an equipment and process engineering team that owns critical metrics related to manufacturing. The team will drive improvements in overall equipment efficiency, product yield, cost, and cycle time through documented actions with clearly defined schedules and expected results. The Staff Manufacturing Engineer will manage the team to generate the highest value from every employee while maintaining a high level of technical ability.
Responsibilities:
- Clearly define expectations for the engineering team and focus on movement of process and equipment related metrics which improve overall MFG line performance
- Drive improvement activities from inception through closure using the engineering resources on their team
- Innovate processes and procedures to streamline production activities on the production floor
- Push the team to adhere to strict 5S standards and maintain cleanliness on the floor and within automation cells
- Provide support for new equipment installation, startup, and hand over
- Improve preventative maintenance activities to decrease overall downtime
- Collaborate with MFG engineering and controls teams to install and troubleshoot new processes and equipment
- Use software generated solutions to track activities (engineering and personnel)
Requirements:
- BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
- Exemplary track record of high impact contributions both as an individual engineer and in a management capacity
- Must have understanding of general manufacturing processes, equipment behavior, automation, and controls
- Experience with automation and controls engineering is preferred
- Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, and desire to learn
- Must be adaptable in work schedule (including compressed work week and night shift) and working environment
- Effective verbal and written communications skills along with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization
- Demonstrated ability to meet commitments and deliver results in a fast-paced technical manufacturing environment
- Ability to manage and execute multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, dynamically adjusting priorities to meet changing business needs
- Experience with application and teaching of structured problem-solving methodology, such as DOE
- Able to drive engineering problems to true root cause and elimination
- Fluent in English and German
- Able to travel domestically and internationally, particularly during the first three months after joining Tesla
