Senior Manager, Software Engineering (m/w/d) - Gigafactory Berlin

Role
As a Senior Manager focused on Giga Berlin implementation, you will oversee the factory specific engineering needs including requirements, design, and development with a focus on manufacturing and supply chain. You will direct the work of software development and integration teams, and ensure our software and systems deliver immediate and compelling value to Tesla. You will require exceptional technical, interpersonal, project management and organizational skills to develop technical solutions which are aligned with Tesla’s go-to-market strategies. You will also be responsible for triaging and resolving operational issues to ensure Berlin Giga Factory builds world-class quality electric vehicles at a good pace. You will primarily be responsible to rapidly scale Berlin Giga Factory’s processes, systems and operations to meet Tesla’s goal of helping make the world environmentally sustainable.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for Giga Berlin Factory Software and IT Manufacturing applications initiatives, including but not limited to Tesla’s in-house Manufacturing Execution (MES), Material Flow, Yard Management, Maintenance Management, ERP and Inventory systems
- Responsible to align with EU business stakeholders and the rest of the engineering leaders on key initiatives
- Assess the risk of the software deployment, control the schedule of the deployment and lead the actual deployment in consultation with global development teams and local operations and support team
- Recruit key talents in the technical team, identify needed infrastructure, prioritize tasks and develop timeframes to facilitate successful completion of product activities and deliverables
- Manage overall cost of Factory Software, Infrastructure and IT Application stack in Berlin and manage our operational cost stringently
- Stays abreast of current technologies and contributes and participates in the analysis and recommendation of new strategies and/or technologies to improve the service experience
- Conducts complex technical feasibility studies and integration projects with in-house and third party software
- Ensures that project team develops and maintains internal documentation
- Perform Reviews of KPIs, Incidents, Outages and Quarterly Status with Tesla’s key executives
- Proactively engage with customers – both leaders and production associates – and gather requirements to add efficiency to manufacturing
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Alternatively the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability
- At least 5 years of experience as the manager responsible for managing other managers and teams
- Technical skills and experience of one or more of these technologies: PLM, PLC,SCADA is a big plus
- Knowledge of JIT and Lean manufacturing
- Experience working within a fast paced environment, keeping a professional, calm demeanor facing short-term adversity
- Strong team player with experience managing large teams, preferably distributed over the world
- 5 years of programming experience working with server side languages such as Go, Java or C#, and a strong understanding of object oriented programming concepts
- Experience with MySQL database and Kafka stream processors
- Experience in continuous integration/deployment toolchains leveraging common technology such as Git, Puppet, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins
- Good understanding of application security (authentication, authorization, security wallet etc.)
- Strong understanding of performance testing concepts and tools, with the ability to positively influence architecture and design decisions
- Ability to act as technical leader, evangelist, mentor and trainer for senior as well as junior team members
- Experience increasing production uptime and test coverage through process and automation
- Good communication skills, able to communicate in German language is an added advantage
- Prior experience working for an Automobile industry would be a plus
