Tesla Motors Announces Further Commitments to The Netherlands
European headquarters, new store and new service facility all planned for 2013
Tesla Motors is furthering its commitment to the Netherlands in 2013. Tesla recently announced its European Final Assembly Plant in Tilburg, and now plans to open a new retail store and service center in Amsterdam this year. Tesla looks forward to bringing many new jobs to the Netherlands, one of its most important global markets.
“Tesla and the Netherlands share a similar vision surrounding energy sustainability and a clean future for generations to come,” said George Blankenship, Tesla Motors vice president of worldwide sales and ownership experience. “We’re thrilled to base our final assembly, distribution, service, sales and operational headquarters in the Netherlands and look forward to many years of great relationships with our business and governmental partners, and most importantly, our Dutch customers.”
To date, reservations from the Netherlands are one of the highest of any country in Europe. Tesla will begin production of its European Model S in June with deliveries starting in July. The final assembly point for EU-bound vehicles will be in Tilburg, where operations will be based for distribution, service, parts, training, collision repair and more.
The Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp is pleased with the arrival of Tesla. "Tesla's choice of the Netherlands shows us that our country is an attractive place for innovative companies to invest in. Such investments mean new jobs and revenue, which is why this cabinet continues to invest in the Netherlands investment climate " says Minister Kamp.
Tesla has been supported in this by the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), the Dutch provinces of Brabant and North Holland, the cities of Amsterdam and Tilburg, and the regional development agencies BOM Foreign Investments and Amsterdam inBusiness.
Tesla’s Amsterdam headquarters will be in the Zuidas district, and the new store will be located in the Museumplein neighborhood. The location of the new service center will be announced in the near future. These new Tesla locations complement existing store and service center locations in Eindhoven.
Tesla’s goal is to accelerate the world’s transition to electric mobility with a full range of increasingly affordable electric cars. California-based Tesla designs and manufactures EVs, as well as EV powertrain components for partners such as Toyota and Daimler.
About Model S
Model S is the world’s first premium sedan built from the ground up as an electric vehicle, meticulously designed and engineered to elevate the public’s expectations of what a car can be. At the heart of Model S is the proven Tesla powertrain, delivering both unprecedented range and a thrilling drive experience. With a rigid body structure, nearly 50/50 weight distribution and a remarkably low center of gravity, Model S offers the responsiveness and agility expected from world’s best sports cars while providing the ride quality of a premium sedan.
Setting the bar for electric driving range, Model S offers 60 kWh and 85 kWh battery options, delivering unprecedented range of up to 500 km (on the NEDC drive cycle) with the 85 kWh variant. Both batteries are contained within the same enclosure, integrating with the vehicle in the same way, providing structural, aerodynamic, and handling advantages. The batteries use automotive-grade lithium-ion cells arranged for optimum energy density, thermal management, and safety.
Without an internal combustion engine or transmission tunnel, the interior of Model S has more cargo space than any other sedan in its class and includes a second trunk under the hood. The interior features a 17” in-dash touchscreen with Internet capabilities.
About Model X
Model X is designed from the ground up to blend the best of an SUV with the benefits of a minivan, as only an electric vehicle can. It is an automobile above category, built around the driver—and six friends. It artfully combines unequalled performance with brilliant functionality.
Model X is a family vehicle with performance roots. The Tesla Vehicle Platform enables Model X to perform in ways never expected from a car of its size. With a center of gravity lower than any other SUV, you’ll notice nimble reflexes at every turn. The electric powertrain delivers instant torque for confident lane changes, even when loaded with seven adults and all their gear.
Model X is offered with optional Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive. The second motor enables more than all-weather, all-road capabilities: it increases torque by 50%.
