Connectivity
Connectivity is an important part of all Tesla cars, further enhancing the driving experience by providing access to features that require data usage — including streaming music and media, live traffic visualization and more.
All cars come with Standard Connectivity which provides access to most connectivity features over Wi-Fi only, in addition to basic maps and navigation and music streaming over Bluetooth®.
Premium Connectivity provides the ability to access all connectivity features over cellular, in addition to Wi-Fi, for the most intuitive and engaging ownership experience. Premium Connectivity is available as a monthly subscription of $13.99 plus applicable tax and can be purchased at any time from your Tesla Account. Orders of Model S, Model X, Model Y and Model 3 with will receive a Premium Connectivity trial at delivery.
All owners can subscribe to Premium Connectivity from the Tesla Account.

For Model S and Model X with second row display, this includes second row in-drive video streaming. Some features such as Caraoke and video streaming are not supported on some cars based on hardware configuration. Who is eligible for a Premium Connectivity subscription?
All Model S, Model X, Model Y and Model 3 ordered on or after July 1, 2018 can subscribe to Premium Connectivity. All cars ordered on or before June 30, 2018 receive Premium Connectivity automatically for the lifetime of the car (excluding retrofits or upgrades required for any features or services externally supplied to the vehicle – e.g. telecommunications network).

You can subscribe to Premium Connectivity from your Tesla Account.
How much do Standard Connectivity and Premium Connectivity cost?
Standard Connectivity is included on all Tesla cars, at no additional cost. Premium Connectivity is available for a monthly subscription that can be purchased from your Tesla Account.
Can I cancel my Premium Connectivity?
Yes. Log into your Tesla Account to adjust your Premium Connectivity subscription.
How can I find my receipt for my Premium Connectivity subscription?
To find your receipt, follow these steps:
- Sign in to your Tesla Account.
- Select ‘Manage’ next to your car.
- Select ‘Details.’
- Under subscriptions, click ‘Receipt.’
Can I receive a refund of my Premium Connectivity subscription if I cancel it in between billing cycles?
No. You cannot receive a partial or full refund for your Premium Connectivity subscription. You can cancel your Premium Connectivity subscription at any time and will continue to receive Premium Connectivity features for the duration of the billing cycle before returning to Standard Connectivity at the end of the billing period.
Features
Will cars with Standard Connectivity still receive over-the-air software updates?
Yes. All cars have access to over-the-air software updates. Learn more about over-the-air software updates and how to check for the latest version.
Will Standard Connectivity affect in-car maps and routing?
No. All cars with Standard Connectivity will continue to receive the same core maps & navigation functionality as cars with Premium Connectivity, including traffic-based routing, Trip Planner and Supercharger stall availability. Premium Connectivity will add satellite-view maps and live traffic visualization.
What music & media are available with Standard Connectivity?
Standard Connectivity offers Bluetooth® pairing, FM radio, Sirius XM capability in North America (for XM-enabled and configured cars) and playback from a USB drive.
Premium Connectivity is required for in-car streaming music & media over cellular.
A paid subscription to streaming services is required to access music and media streaming for both Standard and Premium Connectivity.
Do connectivity plans affect Autopilot?
No. If the car’s software is kept up to date, connectivity plans will not affect Autopilot. As a reminder, all cars have access to over-the-air software updates.
Note: Important safety updates will continue to be available over the car’s cellular connection.
Can I get Premium Connectivity features by using a mobile hotspot?
Some features that are available to Standard Connectivity owners over Wi-Fi such as video streaming, Caraoke and the internet browser may also be accessed over mobile hotspots, subject to fees and restrictions of your mobile carrier.
Is there any limitation on excessive data use?
Yes. In some cases where data usage is deemed as excessive and exceeds a fair daily usage, we reserve the right to reduce connectivity bandwidth. Review the terms and conditions to learn more.

How do the new connectivity options impact current Tesla owners?
All Tesla cars ordered on or before
June 30, 2018
will continue to have access to their existing Premium Connectivity features at no cost for the lifetime of the car (excluding retrofits or upgrades required for any features or services externally supplied to the vehicle – e.g. telecommunications network). As additional features and services become available in the future, owners will have the opportunity to upgrade their connectivity plan.
How are used Tesla cars affected by this policy?
All used Tesla cars purchased on or before January 15, 2020 will continue to have the Premium Connectivity features described above at no cost for the lifetime of the car, and will be active for future owners if sold privately (excluding retrofits or upgrades required for any features or services externally supplied to the vehicle – e.g. telecommunications network).
All used Tesla cars purchased on or after January 16, 2020 will receive Standard Connectivity and are eligible to upgrade to Premium Connectivity. A 30-Day trial of Premium Connectivity is provided on delivery and can be upgraded to Premium Connectivity from the Tesla Account.
What connectivity package applies to Tesla cars purchased privately and have transferred ownership?
Tesla cars purchased privately or via third-party and have transferred ownership on or before January 20, 2020 will have free Premium Connectivity for the lifetime of the car (excluding retrofits or upgrades required for any features or services externally supplied to the vehicle – e.g. telecommunications network).
Tesla cars purchased privately or via third-party and have transferred ownership on or after January 21, 2020 that do not have lifetime Premium Connectivity or an active Premium Connectivity trial will receive a 30 day trial of Premium Connectivity before being eligible for subscription. The trial will commence on the date ownership transfers and requires the buyer to notify us of such date. The trial cannot be postponed or rescheduled.
Will there be a trial period for Premium Connectivity?
All Model S, Model X, Model Y and Model 3 ordered on or after July 1, 2018 will receive a Premium Connectivity trial beginning on the day of delivery.
After the trial ends, Premium Connectivity will be available as a subscription via your Tesla Account.

What’s the difference between Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity?
Cellular connectivity is a wireless data connection and only requires that you’re within range of a cell phone tower — similar to how a smart phone works.
Wi-Fi connectivity requires proximity to a router — similar to how a laptop connects to your Wi-Fi at home.
Is Tesla providing the network for connectivity?
No. Your connectivity network is provided by your local telecommunications company and Tesla is not responsible for the connectivity quality or coverage.
