Tesla-Designed Tyres

Tesla works with the top global tyre manufacturers to help engineer and design tyres that integrate seamlessly with Tesla vehicles’ advanced electric vehicle drivetrains. Our trusted manufacturers include Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Hankook, Kumho, Michelin and Pirelli.

Tesla-Approved Tyre T mark

Tesla-designed tyres are marked with a T mark, T0 as the first version. Subsequent updates to incorporate new tuning or technology will be marked with T1, T2 and so on. Tesla-designed tyres are designed to optimise performance, safety, comfort and range.

Note: All tyres sold directly by Tesla meet the safety and performance standards for Tesla vehicles.

Tesla-Designed and Tesla-Approved Tyres

We offer two categories of tyres to suit your needs: Tesla-designed tyres and Tesla-approved tyres. Tesla-designed tyres are engineered by Tesla in collaboration with leading tyre manufacturers, ensuring seamless integration with Tesla vehicle performance, aerodynamics and software systems. Tesla-approved tyres are aftermarket tyres that are evaluated by Tesla for your vehicle model and offer excellent performance and overall value. Tesla-approved tyres may not contain acoustic foam which could correlate up to a 10% increase in noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). Tesla-approved tyres may also not contain the latest generation materials or be aerodynamically tuned for range as they are not designed by Tesla.

Benefits of Tesla-Designed Tyres

Tesla co-develops tyres for each vehicle directly with manufacturers. Due to the number of variables that impact tyre performance, we utilize virtual development iterations, which combine computer modeling and other tools and allow us to evaluate potential tyre designs before actually producing the tyres. This development process allows us to tune our Tesla-designed tyres to deliver optimal levels of range efficiency, ride comfort, handling and noise reduction.

Performance and Safety

Tesla-designed tyres utilize advanced rubber compounding technology that delivers optimal levels of traction, handling and braking in both dry and wet environments. These tyres are rigorously tested to meet Tesla's safety standards, ensuring reliable performance under extreme conditions such as high speeds or adverse weather. Additionally, their precise engineering enhances vehicle dynamics, providing superior grip during acceleration and cornering while maintaining low rolling resistance for extended range.

Range

To maximise range, we work with leading tyre manufacturers to integrate advanced materials and optimise the shape of our tyres for minimal aerodynamic drag. Additionally, Tesla-designed tyres are built to support both the high-torque acceleration and regenerative deceleration technology of our vehicles. By selecting Tesla-designed tyres and properly maintaining them, you can realise up to a 10% gain in range on average compared to aftermarket tyres since our designed tyres are tuned for maximum low rolling resistance.

Driving Comfort

Tesla deploys the use of acoustic foam and optimised tread patterns in our Tesla-designed tyres, which helps dampen road noise, delivering a quiet and smooth ride.

Acoustic foam in the tyres reduces road noise by 6 decibels (dB) at 200 Hz. For reference, a 3 dB increase would make noise twice as loud, so cutting 6 dB makes the cabin noticeably quieter. This means music and conversations in your Tesla vehicle sound clearer, with significantly less road noise compared to tyres without acoustic foam.

Categories of Tyres

Your vehicle’s originally equipped tyres depend on the vehicle model and market region. Know the capabilities of your vehicle’s tyres and whether they are suited for summer, all-season or winter driving.

All-Season Tyres

All-season tyres are designed to work across the widest range of conditions and offer good traction and comfort in moderate climates. While all-season tyres are designed to provide adequate traction in most conditions year-round, they may not provide the same level of traction as winter tyres in snowy or icy conditions. All-season tyres can be identified by ‘ALL SEASON’ or ‘M+S’ (mud and snow) on the tyre sidewall.

Winter Tyres

Winter tyres are designed with rubber compounds that retain flexibility in cold weather environments. Winter tyres are designed with deeper tread blocks and siping, the small slits on your tyre’s surface, which improves the tyre’s grip and traction on snowy or icy surfaces. For the optimal winter driving experience, we recommend switching to winter tyres once the temperature is consistently at or below 5˚C.

Winter wheel and tyre packages are available from the Tesla Shop.

Summer Tyres

Summer tyres offer the best traction in warmer weather, especially for performance vehicles at higher speeds. Summer tyres have reduced traction capabilities below 5˚C, and for safety reasons, should not be driven on snow, ice or when ambient temperatures are below 0˚C.

How To Purchase Tyres

Tyre Centre

The Tyre Centre in the Tesla app is a convenient way for you to purchase individual tyres or full sets of Tesla-designed or Tesla-approved tyres for your vehicle. By answering a few questions about your current tyres and wheels, you’ll receive personalised tyre recommendations, including the manufacturer, size and key details about the tyre’s features. Once you select your preferred option, you can seamlessly schedule a service visit to have the tyres installed at a Tesla Service Centre. To purchase tyres from the Tyre Centre, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Tesla app.
  2. Tap ‘Service’ > ‘Resources’ > ‘Tyre Centre.’
  3. Tap ‘Full Set’ or ‘Select Individual Tyres.’
  4. Complete the remaining prompts, select your tyres and schedule your service visit to have them installed.

You can also purchase wheel and tyre packages from the Tesla Shop.

Importance of Tyre Maintenance

Tyres naturally change over time from the effects of ultraviolet light, extreme temperatures, high loads and environmental conditions. To maximise each tyre’s tread life, rotating them spreads the wear evenly across all four tyres. Always follow the recommended Tesla tyre rotation schedule. You can also see when your vehicle’s next tyre rotation is due by tapping ‘Controls’ > ’Service’ > ‘Maintenance’ from your vehicle’s touchscreen.

Replacing Tyres

When you need to replace your tyres, we recommend replacing them with our designed tyres as they are developed to reduce road noise and optimise handling, comfort and range.

When needed, your vehicle will detect uneven tyre wear and inform you from your vehicle’s touchscreen when inspection or service is needed. You can schedule a service visit to replace your vehicle’s tyres from the Tesla app.
