1 Million Powerwalls Installed Worldwide
October 27, 2025
Tesla has reached a major milestone: more than one million Powerwall units are now installed across 30 countries.
What One Million Powerwalls Means
Since its launch in 2015, Powerwall has transformed how households generate, store and use clean energy. A decade later, the impact is global and measurable:
- 17.3 TWh of clean energy generated with solar, equivalent to planting over 6 million trees
- 6.7 GW of fleet battery power, enough to power the entire country of Singapore
- 21.5 million outages avoided, keeping homes powered during grid failures
- 1 out of 4 customers enrolled in Tesla Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), sharing excess energy and stabilizing the grid while earning $60M+ in compensation
Savings and Energy Independence
Powerwall is more than backup power - it’s a path to lower bills. By storing daytime solar for evening use, customers cut dependence on grid electricity and avoid peak pricing. In markets with time-of-use rates, savings add up quickly.
Participation in a VPP adds another layer of value. Homeowners get paid for sharing stored energy with the grid, turning their battery into both a backup system and an income-generating resource.
Strengthening the Grid of the Future
A single Powerwall helps one household. A network of them changes the grid. Tesla’s VPPs link thousands of batteries to create reliable, clean energy capacity at scale - reducing the need for fossil-fuel plants, lowering costs and making the grid more resilient.
VPPs are already active in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Australia, UK and Japan, proving that distributed storage can operate like a virtual power station while keeping energy local and sustainable.
Scaling to Meet Global Demand
Demand for resilient, affordable clean energy continues to rise. In early 2025, Gigafactory Nevada produced a record 1,500 Powerwalls in a single day, scaling production to make clean energy accessible to more households worldwide.
The Bigger Mission
Reaching one million Powerwalls is just the start. By combining solar and storage, Tesla is helping households generate, store and use their own clean energy - day and night, in any weather, at lower cost.
Every new Powerwall installed strengthens the world’s shift away from fossil fuels and builds a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
