Model 3 Boot Lid Harness Retrofit

All owners can check if their VIN is affected by using either the Tesla VIN Recall Search or the NHTSA VIN Recall Search tool.

On certain Model 3 vehicles, the boot lid harness is equipped with a solid core coaxial cable that provides the rearview camera feed on the centre display. Over time, repeated opening and closing of the boot lid may cause excessive wear to the coaxial cable. If the wear causes the core of the coaxial cable to separate, the rearview camera feed will no longer be available. The estimated percentage of vehicles with this condition is less than 1%.

We are not aware of any crashes or injuries relating to this condition. However, if the wear causes the core of the coaxial cable to separate, the rearview camera feed will no longer be available, which may affect the driver’s rear view.

If you experience a loss of rearview camera display, you may continue to operate the vehicle by performing a shoulder check and using your mirrors when backing up.

At no cost to you, Tesla Service will inspect the boot harness on affected vehicles for wear. If the coaxial cable is worn but not damaged, Tesla Service will install a guide protector to prevent further wear. If the amount of wear is beyond the specification, Tesla Service will replace the harness and install a guide protector.

The harness inspection and installation of the guide protector takes under 5 minutes to perform. If the harness requires replacement, the repair takes about 40 minutes.
