Trade-Ins

We accept all types of vehicles, including motorbikes, regardless of age, for trade-in value toward a new or Certified Pre-Owned Tesla vehicle purchase. These must have registration valid for at least 3 months after the vehicle is dropped off.

Non-drivable vehicles are not accepted for trade-in. All trade-ins are expected to be in drivable condition and all values are subject to change if the vehicle has any major mechanical or cosmetic concerns.

To obtain a trade-in value before ordering your new or Certified Pre-Owned Tesla vehicle, go to the Tesla trade-in estimate request page to submit your current vehicle information. After you place an order on a new or Certified Pre-Owned Tesla vehicle, you may submit trade-in details in your Tesla Account.

Yes. We will pay out the financier after delivery with any equity being applied to your Tesla order. If you owe more on your finance contract than what the vehicle is worth, you may be able to roll over the negative equity into your new Tesla purchase, subject to finance approval.

Yes. If the trade-in vehicle is owned by a company or private person other than the Tesla reservation holder, a signed letter of authourity from the registered owner must be provided for Tesla to use the equity toward the purchase of a new or Certified Pre-Owned Tesla vehicle.

Trade values for Tesla vehicles are generated out of a standard calculation based on vehicle configuration, history, kilometres and age. The resulting value is based on market data and internal Tesla product knowledge. Non-Tesla trade-in values are provided based on market data utilising industry standard tools and resources.

Estimates are valid for 30 days, however, these are only estimates and Tesla is NOT providing a formal offer to purchase the vehicle at the provided estimated value.

Final Offers are valid for 60 days or 1,500 additional kms once provided by Tesla.

Aftermarket vehicle modifications typically have a negative effect on trade-in valuations. It is best for trade-in vehicles to be in ‘stock’ or original state.

We will not sell a Certified Pre-Owned Tesla vehicle with any aftermarket modifications, therefore these will be factored into the trade-in value to take the vehicle back to original specifications.

Trade-ins must be dropped of at or before your scheduled delivery appointment. If you wish to pre-trade, please arrange this with your Tesla Advisor. We cannot accept trade-ins after delivery of your new Tesla vehicle.

Before trading in your vehicle, the vehicle owner must clear any data and restore it to factory settings. This ensures that all your personal information is removed before you trade in your vehicle. We will not check whether you have cleared your data and we are not responsible for ensuring that your personal data is removed from your trade-in vehicle.

If you are trading in a non-Tesla vehicle, check your owner’s manual for guidance on removing your data. If you are trading in a Tesla vehicle, tap ‘Controls’ > ‘Service’ > ‘Factory Reset’ on your touchscreen to clear your data and restore to factory settings.

Trade-in vehicles cannot be returned once trade-in documents are signed, the vehicle is in our possession and the transaction is complete. For additional details, review your Trade-In Annex.
