Displacing Fossil Fuel Alternatives
Every product we sell helps owners lower emissions. Emissions per mile are significantly lower in our vehicles than in gas-powered vehicles.

Energy Efficiency

Model Y All-Wheel Drive achieves 4.0 EPA miles per kWh—making it the most efficient electric SUV built to date.

Scale is essential. In 2022, Tesla produced and delivered over 1.3 million EVs globally. We hope that every car manufacturer will strive to produce hundreds of thousands of EVs per year and participate in an industry-wide shift to sustainable transportation.

Sustainable Design

We build our factories to limit waste, water usage and energy consumption. With each Gigafactory, we are able to manufacture our products more sustainably.

Building more sustainable factories from the ground up

At Gigafactory Texas, we chose highly efficient, low emissivity windows to reduce building heating and cooling demand.

Covering roof space with solar panels

As of the end of 2022, we had installed 32,400 kW of solar at our factories—with the largest installation at Gigafactory Texas. We will continue to add more capacity as space allows and as is economically feasible.

Leveraging AI to make our energy use more efficient

In 2022, we launched Al control at Gigafactory Texas and expanded to 34% of the total heating, ventilation and air conditioning infrastructure at Gigafactory Nevada.

Less Water Use
On average, we already use less water per vehicle than almost any ICE car manufacturer. Our goal is to achieve industry-leading low water usage per vehicle—even while accounting for in-house cell manufacturing.
