Earth Day 2025: We’re Committed to Building a Sustainable Future
April 22, 2025
This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the progress we’ve made thanks to our owners toward our mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Our work extends beyond electric vehicles to include our fully integrated ecosystem of clean energy products: home and industrial battery storage, electric vehicle charging, and solar.
We Made Big Strides in 2024
- Tesla owners avoided releasing over 30 million metric tons of CO2e into Earth's atmosphere. This is equivalent to the emissions from an ICE vehicle being driven about 90 billion miles.
- Our global Supercharging network was powered by 100% renewable energy for the fourth year in a row. We achieved this through a combination of onsite resources and annual renewables matching.
- Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg operated on 100% renewable electricity for the past two years.
- Tesla deployed over 31 GWh of energy storage across Megapack and Powerwall supporting energy grids and homes while increasing renewables adoption.
- Battery material recovery increased dramatically, with enough material recycled to build 21,000+ Model Y RWD vehicles—a 136% increase from 2023.
Beyond Electric Vehicles: Building a Sustainable Future
Our vision extends beyond sustainable transport to include clean energy generation, storage and sustainable manufacturing processes that minimize our environmental impact while maximizing resources.
We released our Master Plan Part 3 in March 2023—a multi-step plan to build a sustainable global energy economy through end-use electrification and renewable energy generation and storage.
A sustainable energy economy is feasible and requires less investment and less material extraction than today’s fossil fuel-powered energy economy. We continue to work to complete steps 1 and 2 of this plan, and with the support of other industry leaders, we can build a truly sustainable energy economy.

Looking Forward
As we continue scaling worldwide, we remain committed to proving that sustainability and abundance go hand in hand—that both environmental consciousness and technological advancement are driving us toward a more sustainable future.
