Founded in 1920, shortly after the unification of the Romanian territories, in a European context marked by the redefinition of the state and the hardships of the First World War, the Polytechnic School of Timişoara – as it was initially called – was the answer to one of the requirements formulated by the Romanian society of the time, namely the training of engineers.
The structure of Universitatea Politehnica Timișoara includes faculties, departments, institutes and research centers, laboratories, libraries, dormitories, canteens, sports facilities, as well as technical and administrative services, publishing and printing house, student polyclinic. The 10 faculties of the university provide study programs for approximately 13,500 students. Over 800 teaching staff work within the 25 departments, and the administrative and auxiliary staff number around 1,000.
