The Battery ESA covers the repair or replacement of your vehicle’s High Voltage Battery and Drive Unit, that is manufactured or supplied by Tesla, needed to correct a failure during the coverage period.

Coverage under the Battery ESA is up to 24 months or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage takes effect on the date that your vehicle’s original Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty expires.
Parts external to the Battery and Drive Unit are not covered by this Battery ESA. Full details can be found in the ‘Exclusions’ section of your Battery ESA Terms and Conditions.

The Battery ESA is available for the following vehicles that are still covered by the Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty:

You are no longer eligible to purchase the Battery ESA once the Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty has expired.
Tesla will notify you of your eligibility for the Battery ESA in the Tesla app as you near the expiration of your Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty.

You can also confirm eligibility in the Tesla app by following these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

Tap ‘Upgrades’ > ‘Service Plans’ > ‘High Voltage Battery and Drive Unit Extended Service Agreement.’

If you are eligible, you will see an option to purchase the Battery and Drive Unit ESA.

Note: If you do not see the option available, your vehicle may not be eligible for the Battery ESA. Additionally, only the registered vehicle owner can purchase upgrades in the Tesla app.
No. There is no grace period to purchase the Battery ESA. Once your vehicle’s Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty expires, your vehicle is not eligible for the Battery ESA.
To access the Battery ESA, make sure you have the latest version of the Tesla app by updating the app on your mobile device.

You may not see the Battery ESA due to the eligibility criteria. To be eligible for the Battery ESA, you must:

Have a new or pre-owned Model 3 or Model Y vehicle

Have an active Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty

Have not leased your vehicle

Not have a branded title or a total loss vehicle

Open the Tesla app.

Select your vehicle.

Tap ‘Upgrades’ > ‘Service Plans.’

Select ‘High Voltage Battery and Drive Unit Extended Service Agreement.’

Review the Extended Service Agreement price and coverage terms.

Tap ‘Purchase.’

Follow the prompt to complete your purchase.
No. A Battery ESA cannot be added to the total purchase price of your Model 3 or Model Y, whether you are financing or not. This Battery ESA can only be purchased separately after taking delivery of your vehicle.

Extensions, Transfers and Cancelations Show All Hide All

Yes. Once your vehicle ownership request has been fully processed by Tesla, any unused portion of your Battery ESA coverage will be transferred to the new vehicle owner. Additional information can be found in the ‘Transfer’ section of your Battery ESA Terms and Conditions.
Yes. You can request a cancelation in the Tesla app and receive a full refund if your Battery ESA coverage has not yet started. If you are planning to sell your vehicle but want to cancel your Battery ESA, you must complete the cancelation process before transferring the vehicle to its new owner through Tesla.

If your Battery ESA coverage has not yet started, cancel your Battery ESA by following these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

Select your vehicle.

Tap ‘Upgrades.’

Tap ‘Manage Upgrades.’

Select ‘High Voltage Battery and Drive Unit Extended Service Agreement.’

Tap ‘Request Refund.’

Follow the prompt to complete your cancelation.

If your Battery ESA coverage has started, the ‘Cancelation’ section of your Battery ESA Terms and Conditions will govern your remaining coverage and any refund.
