What is Enhanced Autopilot?
Enhanced Autopilot is a suite of advanced driver assistance features designed to improve safety and convenience on the road. Features include:
- Navigate on Autopilot (Beta) – Active guidance from on-ramp to off-ramp
- Autosteer – Assisted steering within your lane
- Auto Lane Change – Automatically change lanes while driving on the highway
- Traffic-Aware Cruise Control – Cruise control that matches the speed to traffic
- Autopark – Parallel and perpendicular parking, with a single touch

When will the Enhanced Autopilot trial start?
Owners who have not already purchased Enhanced Autopilot or experienced an Enhanced Autopilot trial, will qualify for the 30-day trial. There are many factors that affect exactly when your Autopilot trial will begin, including delivery date, car type, location and current software version. For many owners, the Enhanced Autopilot trial will be available soon after delivery.
Do I need to do anything to start my Enhanced Autopilot trial?
No. If you have not already purchased Enhanced Autopilot or experienced an Enhanced Autopilot trial on your Tesla, you will qualify for the 30-day trial. Your car must be running software version 2018.42 or later before the 30-day trial can begin.
How does the Enhanced Autopilot trial work?
You’ll get a notification on your touchscreen when the trial is available. If you select ‘Enable’, all Enhanced Autopilot features, except Navigate on Autopilot (Beta), will immediately be activated. You can choose to activate or disable certain Autopilot features at any point during the trial through the touchscreen, just as an owner who has purchased Autopilot is able to do.
What should I know before engaging Enhanced Autopilot?
Before using Enhanced Autopilot, please read your Owner's Manual for instructions and more safety information. If you agree to enable the trial, all Enhanced Autopilot features, except Navigate on Autopilot (Beta), will immediately be activated. Please only enable these features if you will pay attention to the road, keep your hands on the steering wheel and be prepared to take over at all times.
Autosteer is a driver assistance feature and does not make your car autonomous. Autosteer is designed for use on highways that have a center divider, clear lane markings and no cross-traffic. It should not be used on highways that have very sharp turns or lane markings that are absent, faded, or ambiguous.
Will I still have standard cruise control during the trial?
No. During the trial, your Tesla will be updated with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control instead of standard cruise control. This means when you engage cruise control, your Tesla will automatically adjust speed according to the flow of surrounding traffic. It’s very important to note that once the trial expires, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control will return to standard cruise control, which holds a set speed and does not adapt to traffic conditions.
Can I opt out of the trial?
Yes. You can opt out of the trial at any time by selecting, “I do not want to experience Enhanced Autopilot” on the in-car notification which appears when your trial first begins. If you begin the trial but want to end it early, you can do so by going to the 'Autopilot' tab in the Settings menu and selecting the 'Trial' button near the top right of the display. Once the trial notification appears, you can tap on “I do not want to experience Enhanced Autopilot”.
If you end your trial, your Tesla will automatically reboot to remove Enhanced Autopilot from your car. This process will only take a minute or so.
How much will the Enhanced Autopilot trial cost?
The 30-day Enhanced Autopilot trial is free for all Tesla owners who have not yet purchased an Autopilot package. You will have the option to purchase permanent Enhanced Autopilot functionality via the car’s touchscreen or through your Tesla Account at any time during or after the trial.
During your trial, this upgrade is available to purchase at the reduced price of $5,500 for cars with Full-Self Driving hardware (Hardware 2). One week after your trial, this price will return to $7,000.
How can I purchase Enhanced Autopilot?
You can purchase Enhanced Autopilot at any time through the touchscreen or through your Tesla Account, with any major credit card or ACH.
To purchase Enhanced Autopilot from your Tesla, go to the trial screen in the 'Autopilot' tab in the Settings menu and select 'Order Now'. If you have not already added a payment method to your Tesla Account, you will be prompted to enter your credit card information. After completing your purchase, all currently available Enhanced Autopilot features will be permanently available on your Tesla.
What happens when the trial ends?
You will receive a notification on the touchscreen informing you that your free trial has ended. If you would like to purchase Enhanced Autopilot, select 'Order Now' and follow the on-screen prompts. You can also purchase Enhanced Autopilot at any time through your Tesla Account or under the 'Autopilot' tab in Settings.
Please be aware and cautious once your trial ends as all Enhanced Autopilot Features will be disabled. The Traffic-Aware Cruise Control feature that comes with the trial will revert to standard cruise control and will no longer automatically adjust speed based on traffic.
