Registration and insurance
In most cases, Tesla will register your vehicle on your behalf. Sales tax and registration fees will be collected as part of final payment. In some cases, your Tesla will be considered an out-of-state purchase. Your Delivery Experience Specialist will let you know if this applies to you and provide the necessary documents for you to register your Tesla on your own. We will issue a temporary tag so you can legally drive your Tesla as soon as you take delivery.
Depending on how you choose to pay for your vehicle, you can register your Tesla to your business, a trust, or two registrants. If you plan to Finance or Lease your vehicle, the name and address on your credit application must match your registration information exactly as entered in My Tesla. All registrants must be present at delivery to sign.
Prior to delivery we require scanned copies of the driver’s license of each registered owner. The easiest way to accomplish this is to take a picture of your license with your phone and upload the image to My Tesla. In some cases – for example, if you are financing with Tesla – we’ll also require proof of active insurance (some states require that the insurance for your new Tesla be active by delivery; your Delivery Experience Specialist will notify you if this applies).
