The internship assignment

Tesla is seeking an Intern Electrical Engineer at the last year of their MSc studies (preferably at the conclusion thesis), modeling and measuring electric motor problems. This person will be working as part of the Tesla motor technology team located in Athens, Greece, towards software architecture of advanced simulation tools with focus on SQL databases and Matlab coupling. This will provide the candidate with valuable hands-on experience in handling and parsing big data to derive conclusive summary graphs reported in web-based GUIs.

Learning goals & Tasks

  • Manage SQL databases and data access through Matlab API

  • Create intuitive, modern-looking graphs to present various metrics

  • Integrate above graphs and drawings on intranet pages and presentations

  • Develop and document new code in MATLAB suite

  • Understand the basic physics and electromagnetics behind the operation of electrical machines and gain experience in high fidelity modelling of the respective phenomena


  • MSc studies (ongoing) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

  • Strong mathematical and physics background

  • Very good understanding of databases and SQL experience

  • Strong Matlab programming skills

  • Fluency in English  (excellent written and verbal skills)

  • Active student status during the 6-month internship

The following will be considered as plus:

  • Understanding of electrical machines, power electronics and control fundamentals

  • Understanding of electrical, thermal and mechanical modeling

  • Understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer, high voltage and low voltage DC circuits

  • Experience with modeling losses in electrical machines

  • Understanding of electrical measurements
