Use the Tesla app to control, schedule and get data on your Wall Connector, whether you own a Tesla vehicle or another electric vehicle. To complete your Wall Connector setup, follow the recommended steps to register your Wall Connector and connect it to your home Wi-Fi network.
Installers can complete the commissioning process in the Tesla One app.
Below is a step-by-step guide for assistance with the Quickstart Commissioning and Wi-Fi Connectivity process. If you have already registered and connected your Wall Connector in the Tesla app, there is no need to continue below.
Wall Connectors automatically receive firmware updates when connected to Wi-Fi. The first step for all troubleshooting is to ensure your Wall Connector is commissioned correctly so that it can charge properly and download the most recent firmware for the best performance and latest features.
Note: Before following the steps below, have your Quickstart Guide and home Wi-Fi network password ready and ensure your Wall Connector is unplugged from your vehicle. Keep your Wall Connector unplugged from your vehicle throughout the entire commissioning process. If you lost your password and cannot access your Quickstart Guide, use the Diagnose button below. Have your Tesla part number and Tesla serial number available.
To commission your Wall Connector, follow these steps:
- Prompt your Wall Connector to broadcast its Wi-Fi signal.
- Go to your circuit breaker panel and turn off the breaker for five seconds. During this time, note the amperage for the breaker your electrician has installed for the unit.
- If the circuit breaker is not accessible, press and hold the cable handle button for five seconds to prompt Wall Connector to broadcast its Wi-Fi signal. Once all the lights turn on, you can release the button.
- Ensure Wall Connector is broadcasting.
- For the entirety of this process, stand next to your Wall Connector. After the power cycle or button press above is completed, your Wall Connector will display a pulsing green LED and broadcast its own Wi-Fi access point for up to fifteen minutes, depending on the firmware version.
- Using your mobile device, find and select the Wall Connector’s Wi-Fi network.
- On your mobile device, under ‘Settings,’ locate and select your Wall Connector’s Wi-Fi named TeslaWallConnector_XXXXXX. Then, connect your mobile device, tablet or laptop to your Wall Connector.
- If your Wall Connector network is not displayed, return to step 1. If you turn off the breaker, return to your Wall Connector to ensure the lights are turned off. Then, go turn the breaker back on and come back to your Wall Connector.
- Connect to your Wall Connector’s Wi-Fi
- Enter the 12-digit WPA2 password on the front of the Wall Connector Quickstart guide to connect your mobile device or other device to your Wall Connector. This password is case sensitive. If you have connected to the TeslaWallConnector_XXXXXX network previously, you may not be prompted for a password and your device may connect to the network automatically.
- If you have misplaced your password and your Quickstart guide is unavailable, use the diagnostic tool. Have your Tesla part number and Tesla serial number available.
- Note: If the device being used gives an alert that the Wi-Fi is not connected to the internet, this is OK and expected. Continue by staying connected to your Wall Connector’s Wi-Fi. If the device automatically reverts to a known Wi-Fi connection, it may be necessary to turn on airplane mode or delete the home network from the device until commissioning is complete.
- Scan the QR code with your mobile device camera or enter the IP address below into any web browser.
- While connected to your Wall Connector Wi-Fi, scan the above QR code with your mobile device camera, or manually enter IP address http://192.168.92.1 into your web browser to set up your Wall Connector, including connecting it to your local Wi-Fi.
- Note: Ensure that you are using a web browser - such as Google Chrome or Safari - and not a search app.
- A page should pop up that has the below options:
- If the front page of the wizard fails to load fully, amend the URL to http://192.168.92.1/installation and tap ‘Go.’
- Next, go to ‘Installation.’
- From the country drop-down, select your country of residence. From the circuit breaker drop-down, confirm and select the circuit breaker size your Wall Connector is installed on and hit ‘Save.’
- Connect to your Wi-Fi to complete setting up your Wall Connector.
- If the front page of the wizard fails to load fully again, amend the URL to http://192.168.92.1/wifi and tap ‘Go.’
- From the front page, select ‘Wi-Fi’ and wait for your home Wi-Fi to populate. If this does not appear, tap ‘Rescan.’ You’ll be prompted to enter your home network password.
- Once connected to your home Wi-Fi, a page will appear listing your network details. To confirm your Wall Connector is fully connected, ensure there are checkmarks next to ‘Connected to Tesla’ and ‘Connected to Internet.’
- If you do not see your network on the list after hitting ‘Rescan’ or do not get checkmarks confirming your connections after attempting to connect, review your network security settings to ensure the below settings are true:
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi: No 5.0 or 6.0 GHz shared networks
- WPA2 security: No WPA2/3 shared networks
- No MAC address filtering
- No content filtering
- Check with your internet service provider or router manufacturer as needed to verify these security and network settings.
The best way to keep your Wall Connector up to date is to connect to local Wi-Fi. If this is not possible, firmware updates can be manually installed by following these steps:
- Download the firmware file.
Save the file locally on the device you will be using to connect to your Wall Connector. We recommend using a mobile device, tablet or laptop. Download below:
Firmware 23.24.4 - Connect to your Wall Connector Wi-Fi access point.
- Follow steps one through six above to commission the installation. The network name (SSID) and password (WPA2) details can be found on the Quickstart guide that came with your Wall Connector.
- Note: If the Quickstart guide is unavailable and you cannot locate your password, use the diagnostic tool. Have your Tesla part number and Tesla serial number available.
- Navigate to update page.
- After connecting to the Wall Connector access point, use a web browser to navigate to http://192.168.92.1/update or http://192.168.92.1/service.
- Install the firmware file.
- Select ‘Choose File’ and then upload the Wall Connector firmware file. Click ‘Upload’ and wait for up to one minute.
- Confirm the firmware update.
- A success message will be displayed if the manual firmware update is successful. Your Wall Connector may reboot.
- If a failure message appears, power cycle your Wall Connector by turning the circuit breaker off and back on again and then try uploading the firmware update again.
