End-of-Term Inspection and Collection

If you are a Tesla Financial Services (TFS) customer and are returning a vehicle to Tesla, our independent partner company will carry out the end-of-term vehicle inspection, as well as the vehicle collection from a selected address.

The inspection report allows us to provide you with an accurate cost for excess wear and tear or excess mileage. Our independent partner adheres to BVRLA guidelines and provides you with an objective and transparent report on what damage is considered fair wear and tear and what damage is chargeable to them as excess wear and tear.

Once an on-site inspection is completed, the vehicle is driven to the agreed-upon Tesla location. Once the vehicle has been processed, it will be removed from your Tesla app and you will receive your final payment instructions.

Note: TFS contract extensions are currently unavailable.

If you have placed an order for a new vehicle with Tesla, we may be able to deliver the new vehicle at the same time as collecting the return vehicle.

Note: The order for a new vehicle must be placed a minimum of 30 days before your contract maturity date to be considered for this service.

Inspection and Collection

An independent Tesla logistics partner will organise an inspection and collection date with you and return the vehicle to Tesla.

Key-to-Key Inspection and Collection

If you have placed an order for a new vehicle with Tesla, we may be able to deliver the new vehicle at the same time as collecting the return vehicle. You will need to provide your Reservation Number (RN) and Scheduled Delivery Date (SDD) to both Tesla and our logistics partner once they contact you in order to ensure a smooth collection and vehicle handover.

Note: If the arranged vehicle collection date is later than your maturity date, you must still ensure that your current Tesla vehicle is roadworthy as it will be driven back to a Tesla location after the inspection has been completed.

Prepare for the Inspection

Ensure that all standard equipment, such as floor mats, charging cable(s), tow eye, parcel shelf and both key cards, is present and ready to be returned with the vehicle.

Any aftermarket modifications need to be removed before the inspection. Otherwise, they will be chargeable as excess wear and tear.

It is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy until the vehicle is returned to a Tesla location. Make sure the vehicle is taxed, has a valid MOT and that all tyre tread depths are a minimum of 1.6 mm and free from any cuts and bulges.

Inspection and Collection Process
  1. Our logistics partner contacts you by email or phone to initiate your vehicle return prior to your maturity date.
  2. Our partner will prepare you for the return and provide you with a date for the inspection and collection of your vehicle.
  3. Any damage flagged as excess wear and tear will be chargeable once the vehicle has been returned. Learn more in our Wear and Tear Guide.
  4. As the inspection concludes, unpair your phone key, factory reset the vehicle and remove all belongings from the vehicle.
  5. Once the inspection has been completed, a digital copy of the inspection report is sent to you once the inspection has been completed.
  6. After the vehicle is returned and processed by Tesla, an overview of your final payments will be available in the Tesla app.

Note: Our logistics partner requires at least 48 hours of valid MOT prior to the vehicle collection date.

For any changes to your vehicle inspection and collection appointment, ensure that you notify our logistics partner by noon on the day before your original appointment time. Otherwise, you may be subject to additional charges.

Repairs Prior to Return

Any private repairs must be completed prior to your vehicle collection or return date. Afterwards, any charges for damages listed as excess wear and tear will be added to your final invoice.

Common charges for excess wear and tear include damaged alloy rims or paintwork, dents and damage to tyres, such as cuts, cracks, balding or bulges. Find a local Tesla Certified Body Shop.
