Update Vehicle Firmware to Restore Post-Crash eCall Functionality

Tesla issued a recall on certain model year 2022-2025 Model X and Model S vehicles running a software release version from 2024.44 and later up to 2024.45.32.1 for customer vehicles and 2024.44.100 for production vehicles.

These versions introduced an occupancy detection regression in the emergency call (“eCall”) audio system post-crash when the front passenger seat (non-driver) is occupied.

The software regression brings affected vehicles out of compliance with EU 2015/758 and EU 2017/79 requirements for emergency systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the issue?

Software release 2024.44 and later up to 2024.45.32.1 for customer vehicles and 2024.44.100 for production vehicles introduced an occupancy detection regression in the emergency call (“eCall”) audio system post-crash when the front passenger seat (non-driver) is occupied.

Is my car affected by this recall and what should I do?

All owners can check if their VIN is affected by using the Tesla VIN Recall Search tool.

At no cost to customers affected vehicles receive an over-the-air software remedy with firmware release 2024.45.32.2. No further action is necessary from owners whose vehicles are equipped with the required software release or later.

You can confirm your vehicle’s software version by tapping 'Controls' > 'Software’ on your touchscreen or at the bottom of your vehicle’s home screen in the Tesla mobile app.

Is my car safe to drive?

On affected vehicles, the eCall audio system will not operate in compliance with EU regulation requirements when the front passenger seat is occupied. As a result, communication between the occupants of the vehicle and an eCall public safety answer point is unavailable post-crash. The eCall operation is not affected when only a driver is present.

Do I need to make a service appointment for this recall?

No. This recall is addressed by updating the vehicle software to 2024.45.32.2 or later releases and does not require the owner to schedule a service appointment.

What if my software update fails to download or install?
