Connecting to Wi-Fi
We recommend leaving your Tesla vehicle connected to a Wi-Fi network while at home as some features, like map and software updates, require a stable, reliable connection.
To connect your Tesla vehicle to a Wi-Fi network, follow these steps:
- On your vehicle touchscreen, tap ‘Controls’ > the Wi-Fi icon.
- Select the Wi-Fi network you would like to use and enter the password if needed.
Once you’ve connected to a Wi-Fi network, the vehicle will automatically connect to that network every time the vehicle is in range.
You can connect your vehicle to a mobile hotspot by turning on the hotspot on your mobile device and following the Wi-Fi connection steps. To remain connected to your hotspot Wi-Fi when shifting into Drive or Reverse, choose the connection from the Wi-Fi settings screen and tap ‘Remain connected in Drive.’
If you are unable to connect your Tesla vehicle to a Wi-Fi network, check that:
- The Wi-Fi network is working properly
Verify by connecting another device to the same network. - Your vehicle is in range of the Wi-Fi network
You may need to move the vehicle closer if it is out of range. - You are using the correct Wi-Fi network and password
If the Wi-Fi network is working properly and your vehicle is in range but you are still unable to connect, follow these steps:
- Tap the Wi-Fi icon in the top-right corner of your vehicle touchscreen.
- Turn the Wi-Fi off and on again in your vehicle.
- Follow the Wi-Fi connection steps.
If you are still unable to connect your vehicle to the Wi-Fi network, schedule a service appointment.
