Safety Score: Tesla Insurance policyholders in California may get Safety Score to help improve their driving behaviors and safety. Tesla Insurance does not use Safety Score information to determine your premium in California.

Getting Tesla Insurance

To get an insurance quote or add vehicles to an existing policy, you will need the following:

VIN
Driver’s license
Proof of residency
Proof of registration
Access to your vehicle to take photos

To get a quote for a new policy for a vehicle not produced by Tesla, follow these steps:

Create a Tesla Account.
Open the Tesla app.
Scroll to the bottom of the home screen.
Tap ‘Tesla Insurance.’

You can also get a new quote by contacting us at 1-844-34-TESLA, available Monday - Friday, 6 AM to 3:30 PM PT.

California residents can get Tesla Insurance for vehicles that are not produced by Tesla.

To add another vehicle not produced by Tesla to your existing Tesla policy:

Open the Tesla app.
Tap the menu in the top-right corner.
Tap ‘Tesla Insurance.’
Tap ‘Manage Policy.’
Tap ‘Make Policy Updates.’
Tap ‘Add Vehicle.’

You can also add a non-Tesla vehicle to your existing policy by contacting us at 1-844-34-TESLA, available Monday - Friday, 6 AM to 3:30 PM PT.

You will need a valid VIN and a current, valid driver’s license to get an insurance quote.

Paying Your Insurance Premiums

Tesla Insurance accepts all major credit and debit cards as payment. You can manage your payment methods and payments in the Tesla app.

California residents can pay their Tesla Insurance premiums by mailing in a check, money order or cash. You’ll be required to authorize this alternative method with Tesla before sending out your payment. You can do so by contacting us at 844-348-3472.

Once the alternative payment method has been authorized by Tesla, send your payment and policy number to:

For new policyholders using an alternative payment method, your coverage will start when your payment is received.

Note: If you are a renewing policyholder and are using an alternative payment method, your policy may be canceled if your payment is not received in a timely matter.
