How do I install home charging equipment?
There are four steps to installing home charging equipment:
1. Find an Electrician
Enter your zip code in the Tesla Find an Electrician tool to locate installers in your area.
If you already have an electrician you would like to work with, please direct them to the latest Wall Connector installation guide for a seamless experience.
2. Request a Quote
We recommend installing the Wall Connector on a 60 amp circuit in the parking space closest to your existing electrical infrastructure. Many electricians now offer quotes online and by email, making it easy to obtain multiple quotes.
3. Order Your Wall Connector
Once you have a quote from an electrician, order your Wall Connector online.
4. Schedule Your Installation
Forward the Wall Connector Order Shipment Confirmation email to your electrician and schedule your installation date directly.
What home charging equipment is available?
There are two connector options:
Tesla recommends the Wall Connector as the most dynamic home charging hardware for Model S, Model X and Model 3. Customizable to almost any power supply, the Wall Connector will provide faster charging speeds and the most convenience for home charging.
The Mobile Connector is included with all new vehicles as standard equipment. Use this connector cable to plug into standard electrical outlets as a backup charging option.
Different Tesla cars have different charging capabilities — learn more about the onboard charger.
How do I install charging in a multi-unit dwelling?
Multi-unit dwellings consist of apartments, condominiums and any residence with shared common space, such as parking or electrical infrastructure. Your apartment or condominium may have a board, manager or owner who should be informed of your planned charging installation.
We've created a template to communicate the value of home charging for your building to ensure all stakeholders are aware of your planned purchase, and your plan to have home charging options.
