Home Charging Installation
We recommend charging your Tesla vehicle overnight, just like your mobile phone. Pull into your parking space, plug in, and you will wake up to a full charge the next morning. Even better, electricity will only be a fraction of the cost of fuel.
To prepare your home for charging, hire an electrician to install a dedicated circuit conveniently near where you will park your Tesla vehicle. The charge port is located on the passenger side. Follow the links below to learn more about Tesla charging:

Model S and Model X include the following charging accessories as standard equipment:
- Wall Connector (7.4 m)
- Mobile Connector (6 m)
- Adapter for standard 230 volt household outlets (10 amp)
Every Tesla comes standard with a Wall Connector. Charge at up to 81 kilometres of range per hour right from home.
The Mobile Connector and adaptor is used to plug into common 10 amp electrical outlets.

Vehicle On-Board Charger
Tesla vehicles are now equipped with the High Power Charger, capable of 16.5kW. Your Tesla may have other options of on-board chargers.

As an alternative to installing a Wall Connector at a fixed location, a Mobile Connector can plug into common 10 amp electrical outlets.

Hiring an Electrician
A licensed electrician will need to visit your home to provide a quote for installation of the Wall Connector. Cost of installation will vary by location and scope of work involved. Some homes may require switchboard upgrades or trenching to install home charging equipment which can increase the cost and require longer lead times. Like any home improvement project, you may want to have 2 or 3 electricians provide a quote for your installation.

Permits and Inspections
As with any home improvement project involving the electrical system, a permit and city or state inspection may be required. Ask your electrician to specify what the local regulatory requirements are for your area.
Tesla customers can enjoy a free technical site visit for Home Charging installation by providing the RN number of the Tesla vehicle order to any of our recommended installers. A quotation and a basic description of the work will be provided afterwards.
Begin talking with property management about your intent to purchase a Tesla as early as possible. Ask if any of the neighbours have expressed similar interest, or if they have plans to add charging infrastructure to the building. Below you will find two documents to assist with requesting charging installation from your building management. The first document is a templated letter that can be tailored to your specific property. The second is a presentation to show the benefits and process of installing charging.

Load sharing with multiple Wall Connectors
Up to four Tesla Wall Connectors can be linked together to intelligently share power from a single circuit breaker. This functionality is beneficial for homes or commercial locations which need to charge more than one Tesla vehicle at the same time, but may not have enough power for multiple electrical circuits. For this type of installation, an electrician can provide a distribution box to split power between multiple Wall Connectors and install a communication cable which enables the units to operate as a network. This allows one station to provide maximum power to a single vehicle, or to split power when more than one Tesla is plugged in. To maximize charging speed we recommend installing the largest circuit breaker possible for the electrical panel, up to 100 amps.
