Tesla Electric Dynamic Plan
Tesla Electric Dynamic plan is an electricity plan for Powerwall owners that combines dynamic wholesale export pricing with fixed time-of-use import rates. The plan allows you to earn revenue by exporting stored energy to the grid during high-demand periods while maintaining predictable costs for energy imported from the grid for use in your home.
This plan is currently available in NSW, VIC, ACT, SA and South-East Queensland for invited Powerwall 2 and Powerwall 3 owners with remotely read smart meters.
Tesla Electric Dynamic Plan uses two pricing structures to help you manage energy costs and earnings:
- Export Pricing: Your Powerwall automatically exports stored energy at optimal times, and you earn 90% of the real-time market price for energy exported to the grid. Prices update every five minutes based on the wholesale market rates published by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). The minimum export rate is 0 c/kWh, meaning you will not be charged for exports even when wholesale prices are negative.
- Import Pricing: Time-of-use (TOU) rates apply to energy imported from the grid. Your rates remain consistent throughout the week, with peak, off-peak and shoulder or ‘solar sponge’ periods as determined by your network or offered by Tesla to create more opportunities to offer low-cost rates.
Track your export prices in real time through the Tesla app by tapping ‘Energy Price’ on your energy home screen. When viewing energy prices in the Tesla app, the Sell Price represents 90% of the real-time market price for your region.
Manage your Tesla Electric invoice and make payments through the Tesla app. Your invoice includes:
- Usage charges: Energy imported from the grid to power your home, charge Powerwall or charge your electric vehicle
- Export credits: Energy exported to the grid from Powerwall or your solar system
- Daily supply charges including network and metering costs
- GST
- Amount due and due date
