Powershare Home Backup

With Powershare Home Backup, your Cybertruck can automatically provide backup power to your home with up to 11.5 kW of power for up to three days.¹ When paired with solar panels or Solar Roof, you can extend your backup duration by powering your home and charging your Tesla vehicle through an outage. Powershare Home Backup can detect an outage and start providing power within one minute without noise, emissions or maintenance.

Powershare Grid Support

In certain areas, Powershare Grid Support lets you sell the energy stored in your Cybertruck battery back to the grid during high-demand periods allowing you to make money while your vehicle is plugged in.

The Tesla App

Use the Tesla app to learn about your Powershare Home Backup system or enroll in a Powershare Grid Support program. To enable Powershare, open your vehicle control settings in the Tesla app.

What Do I Need for Powershare?

The equipment you need for Powershare depends on the configuration of your home’s energy system.

If your home energy system has a Powerwall, you will need:

Either a Universal Wall Connector or Wall Connector 3

Note: Currently, Powershare is not available for home energy systems that include Powerwall. Powershare will be available for Powerwall configurations soon through an over-the-air update. You can, however, install all the equipment you need today to be ready for this upcoming feature.

Note: Co-optimization of Powershare with Powerwall for Grid Support is not supported at this time. If you have both installed, you will only receive energy credits from your Powerwall, if you’ve enrolled in the relevant programs.
If your home energy system does not have a Powerwall, you will need:

Powershare Gateway

Universal Wall Connector

In some cases, installing a Backup Switch can reduce your installation cost.

If you are planning on installing a Powerwall in addition to Powershare, install the Powerwall first to avoid additional electrical work.
Solar energy systems are compatible with your Powershare system and will extend your backup duration in an outage.

Note: In some regions, solar may disqualify you from participating in Powershare Grid Support due to additional metering requirements.

Powershare Home Backup is compatible with certain home energy system configurations. Additional equipment may be required depending on your current configuration. For more information, contact a Certified Installer or get started with Qmerit, our current national provider.
You can transform your vehicle’s charge port into an outlet using a Mobile Connector and Tesla Outlet Adapter. Only the Gen 3 Mobile Connector supports Powershare functionality. Purchase the Mobile Connector and adapter from the Tesla Shop.
Gen 3 Mobile Connector, shown below, is required.

Gen 2 Mobile Connector, shown below, does not support Powershare functionality.
To use the Mobile Connector and Tesla Outlet Adapter as an outlet, you need:

When your bed or cabin outlets are in use, usage of Mobile Connector and Tesla Outlet Adapter will be disabled. When the Mobile Connector and Tesla Outlet Adapter are in use, usage of bed or cabin outlets will be disabled.
Powershare vouchers, Supercharging credits and Tesla Shop credits from a Foundation Series Cybertruck order expire one year from the original date they were issued. You can find the issue date in the email you received when the vouchers or credits were granted.
