Tesla Powershare

Tesla Powershare technology unlocks your Cybertruck battery’s ability to provide power through the onboard outlets or the charge port. With Powershare, Cybertruck owners can power electronic devices, electric vehicles and their homes during a power outage using energy from their Cybertruck.

Powershare Capabilities

Power on the Go

With Powershare, you can power electronic devices or tools using power outlets built in to your Cybertruck. Cybertruck has two 120 V outlets (up to 20A) in the cabin plus two 120 V outlets (up to 20A) and one 240 V outlet (up to 40A) in the cargo bed. All outlets together can supply up to 9.6kW.

Charge Other EVs

Powershare allows you to charge other electric vehicles with up to 9.6 kW of power by plugging into the 240 V cargo bed outlet on your Cybertruck.

Home Backup

With Powershare, your Cybertruck can automatically provide backup power to your home with up to 11.5 kW of power for up to three days.1 Powershare Home Backup can detect an outage and start providing power within one minute without noise, emissions or maintenance.

One App

Use the Tesla app to learn about your Powershare Home Backup system and walk through the required hardware. To enable Powershare, open your vehicle control settings in the Tesla app.

Getting Powershare Equipment

Purchase Powershare equipment from the Tesla Shop. In addition to cabin and cargo bed power outlets, all Foundation Series Cybertruck owners will also receive a Powershare Mobile Connector and may be eligible to receive Powershare Home Backup hardware (Universal Wall Connector and Powershare Gateway) with a Tesla Shop voucher.2

Powershare Home Backup functionality is available for system configurations that do not have a backed up solar system, Backup Switch or Powerwall setup. Powershare Home Backup functionality is expected to be available for backed up solar systems and Backup Switch configurations later this year through an over-the-air update.2

Required Equipment for Powershare Home Backup

For Customers Without Powerwall

For homes not equipped with Powerwall, a Universal Wall Connector and Powershare Gateway will be required to use Powershare Home Backup.2

If you are adding a Powerwall to your home, we recommend installing Powerwall first to avoid any additional hardware and installation costs later. Powerwall upgrades your home to an instant, seamless backup solution that can maximize the value of your solar system and ensure your home is prepared for severe weather events. Solar Roof and solar panels add the ability to generate your own electricity and further increase your independence from the grid and utility costs.

Universal Wall Connector

Universal Wall Connector enables bi-directional charging, allowing Cybertruck to either charge or power the home during an outage when plugged in.

Powershare Gateway

Powershare Gateway controls connection to the grid, automatically detects outages and provides seamless transition to backup power.

Tesla Backup Switch

Backup Switch is optional in Powershare Home Backup systems and will be available to install later this year depending on system configuration and utility approval. Like Powershare Gateway, Backup Switch also automatically detects grid outages and can be installed behind the meter to seamlessly transition to backup power.

Note: Find your state to see if Backup Switch is approved by your utility. Backup Switch is not yet approved in any utilities for Powershare installations.

For Customers With Powerwall

If your home is equipped with Powerwall and home charging, you do not require any additional equipment. Powershare Home Backup functionality with Powerwall is expected to be available later in 2025 through an over-the-air update. All Powerwall models will be compatible with Powershare Home Backup in the future.2

Our preferred home charging solution is the Wall Connector or the Universal Wall Connector on a 240 V circuit, but any generation of Wall Connector is compatible with Home Backup if using Powerwall. The home charging system must be backed up by Powerwall to enable Home Backup.

For Customers With Solar

If your home is equipped with a solar system, a Universal Wall Connector and Powershare Gateway are required to use Powershare Home Backup2 if you do not already have a Powerwall. Powershare Home Backup functionality with solar is expected to be available later this year through an over-the-air update.

Order and Installation Process

If you ordered a Foundation Series Cyberbeast after May 23, 2024 or ordered a Foundation Series Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive, here’s what you can expect:

  1. We will email you a $2,500 Tesla Shop voucher2 and instructions for coordinating with a Tesla Certified Installer for the installation of your Powershare Home Backup equipment. The voucher can be used for either a single purchase in the Tesla Shop, which may include various items up to the voucher value, or toward the cost of your Powershare Home Backup equipment.
  2. If your home is eligible and you are interested in installing a Powershare Home Backup, you can contact a Tesla Certified Installer and sign an installation agreement to have your Powershare Home Backup equipment installed. Contact a Certified Installer to request a quote or get started with Qmerit, our current national provider. Installation cost depends on the installation configuration and complexity.
  3. If your home is ineligible or you are not interested in installing Powershare Home Backup equipment, you may use the voucher for a single purchase in the Tesla Shop as an alternative.
  4. Once you have signed an installation agreement with a Tesla Certified Installer, use the voucher provided in the Tesla Shop to purchase your Powershare Home Backup equipment.
  5. After receiving your Powershare Home Backup equipment, coordinate with the Certified Installer for installation. After permitting is finalized, installation typically takes one day. If required, the installer will coordinate final inspection with the local permitting department.
  6. If Powershare Home Backup is compatible with your current energy system, it can take up to a week after equipment installation for Powershare activation to appear in the Tesla app. If your energy system is not currently supported, you can expect Powershare activation to appear in the Tesla app by the end of the year.

If you ordered a Foundation Series Cyberbeast before May 23, 2024, here’s what you can expect:

  2. We will confirm if your home is eligible.
    • If your home is not eligible, you indicated in your survey that you are not interested in Powershare Home Backup or you didn't complete the survey, you will receive an alternative offer of either Supercharging credits or a Tesla Shop voucher. Your Supercharging credits or Tesla Shop voucher will be available within two weeks of completing your survey or taking delivery of your vehicle, whichever is later.
    • If your home is eligible and you have a Powerwall, you do not need a Powershare Gateway. Instead, you will receive an alternative offer of a Tesla Shop voucher. Your voucher will be available within two weeks of completing your survey or taking delivery of your vehicle, whichever is later.
    • If your home is eligible and you don’t have a Powerwall, we will connect you to a Certified Installer once your vehicle delivery date is scheduled. The installer has been specifically trained to install Powershare Home Backup and will be the only installer available for installation.
  3. The Certified Installer will reach out to schedule a time to visit your home. After the installer visits your home, the installer will provide you with an installation quote. Powershare Home Backup installation cost depends on installation configuration and complexity.
  4. Once you accept the quote, the installer will prepare for installation and take care of the required permitting. If you decline the quote, we will provide an alternative offer of a Tesla Shop voucher. You must communicate your offer rejection to your installer. Your voucher will be available within two weeks after your Certified Installer informs Tesla of the rejection or your vehicle delivery date, whichever is later.
  5. Once the permitting is finalized, the installer will begin installation. Installation typically takes one day. If required, the installer will coordinate final inspection with the local permitting department.
  6. If Powershare Home Backup is compatible with your current energy system, it can take up to a week after installation is complete for Powershare activation to appear in the Tesla app. If your energy system is not currently supported, you can expect Powershare activation to appear in the Tesla app by the end of the year.
