Extended Service Agreement Subscription

If your Tesla vehicle has an active New Vehicle Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty, you may be eligible to subscribe to the Tesla Extended Service Agreement (ESA).

The monthly ESA subscription covers the repair or replacement necessary to correct the mechanical breakdown or inability to perform the function(s) for which it was designed of most parts manufactured or supplied by Tesla during the coverage period under normal use subject to the applicable deductible. Coverage takes effect on the date that your original New Vehicle Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.

ESA is offered as a monthly subscription in the Tesla app.

To subscribe, follow these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

Tap ‘Upgrades’ > ‘Service Plans’ > ‘Extended Service Agreement.’

Review the Extended Service Agreement subscription fee and coverage terms.

Tap ‘Subscribe.’

Review and confirm your payment information.
As your Tesla vehicle is nearing the expiration of your Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty, Tesla will notify you of your eligibility for the ESA subscription in the Tesla app.

You can also confirm eligibility in the Tesla app by following these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

Tap ‘Upgrades’ > ‘Service Plans’ > ‘Extended Service Agreement.’

If you are eligible, you will see an option to subscribe to the Extended Service Agreement or schedule a paid vehicle inspection.

Note: If you do not see the option available, your vehicle may not be eligible for an ESA subscription. Additionally, only the registered vehicle owner can subscribe in the Tesla app. If your Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty has expired, you may be required to pass a paid inspection to be able to subscribe.

How much does the ESA subscription cost?

Once you have subscribed to the Extended Service Agreement, payments and coverage will begin once your Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty has fully expired.
No. You may only subscribe to the Extended Service Agreement in the Tesla app after taking delivery of your vehicle and once your vehicle is nearing the expiration of your Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Currently, the ESA subscription is not available for leased vehicles. However, if you decide to purchase your Tesla vehicle at the end of your lease, we will begin offering ESA subscription eligibility by the end of 2025.
Currently, the ESA subscription is only available in the U.S. and Canada. Tesla plans to expand access to other regions in the future. If you currently live in Mexico, the two-year ESA is available at current pricing and terms.
To access the ESA subscription, you must have the latest version of the app by updating the Tesla app on your mobile device.

Also, you may not see the ESA subscription due to the eligibility criteria. To be eligible for the ESA subscription, you must:

Have a Model S, Model 3, Model X or Model Y

Have not leased your vehicle

Have not exceeded the mileage or age eligibility

Not have a branded title or a total loss vehicle

If applicable, have an active two-year ESA or pass the vehicle inspection once available

Coverage for the ESA subscription will last until your vehicle reaches 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, for a monthly subscription fee. Coverage begins once your Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.
The ESA subscription covers the repair or replacement necessary to correct the mechanical breakdown or inability to perform the function(s) for which it was designed of most parts manufactured or supplied by Tesla during the coverage period under normal use. Coverage takes effect on the date that your Basic or Pre-Owned Limited Warranty expires.

The ESA subscription also covers Tesla Roadside Assistance, which provides you with immediate roadside services, 24/7 365 days a year.

There are specific components that are not covered by the ESA subscription including, but not limited to, the following:

Maintenance parts such as filters, brake pads, low voltage batteries, shocks and struts

Maintenance such as suspension alignment, wheel balancing and brake services

Appearance care such as cleaning and polishing

Normal wear and tear such as body seals and interior and exterior trim

Wheels and tires

Parts and accessories with separate warranty coverage such as keys, high voltage batteries, drive units and safety and restraint systems

Issues arising from certain occurrences such as accidents, abuse and improper maintenance

Additionally, Tesla vehicles that have branded titles or are determined to be a total loss are not covered by the ESA subscription. You can find a complete list of what is not covered in the ‘Exclusions’ section of your ESA Terms and Conditions.

No. Your vehicle’s Battery and Drive Unit are already covered by the Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty. This limited warranty provides coverage for up to 8 years. Depending on your Tesla vehicle, the mileage for your Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty coverage may vary.

If your Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty is still active, you may be eligible for the High Voltage Battery and Drive Unit Extended Service Agreement (Battery ESA). Available for your Model 3 and Model Y vehicle, the Battery ESA covers eligible repairs or replacements of your vehicle’s Tesla-made High Voltage Battery and Drive Unit.
Designed for convenience and peace of mind, Tesla offers various service plans for your Tesla vehicles.

Tesla Windshield Protection Plan

Once eligible, you can also access your ESA subscription by following these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

At the bottom of the home screen, tap ‘Specs & Warranty.’

Tap the ‘Warranty’ tab to view your Extended Service Agreement.

If you previously purchased the Extended Service Agreement with a one-time payment from a Tesla Service Center or the Tesla app, refer to your ESA Terms and Conditions that you received at the time of your purchase. If you are unable to locate those documents, contact the Customer Support team.
Yes. Once you sell your Tesla vehicle, you can initiate a vehicle ownership transfer with Tesla, allowing the new owner to resume the remaining of your ESA subscription coverage. The new owner will receive notice of the option to continue the subscription. Once the ownership transfer is completed, you will not be charged for the subscription after your last payment.
Yes. You may cancel your ESA subscription at any time in the Tesla app. If the coverage period for your ESA subscription has not started, you will receive a full refund of your monthly subscription fee. If your ESA subscription coverage has started, the ‘Cancelation’ section of your ESA Terms and Conditions will govern your remaining coverage and any refund.

To cancel, follow these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

Tap ‘Upgrades’ > ‘Manage Upgrades’ > ‘Extended Service Agreement.’

Tap ‘Cancel Agreement.’

Follow the prompt to complete your cancelation.
If you cancel your active subscription, you have until the end of that same billing cycle to continue your coverage. Once the billing cycle ends, coverage will fully expire, and you will not be able to resubscribe.
No. Coverage for the ESA subscription will expire once your vehicle reaches 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, and only begins once your Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty had expired. Additionally, once your subscription is canceled and the billing cycle ends, you may not resubscribe.

How does the ESA subscription compare to the two-year ESA?

The ESA subscription and the two-year ESA provide the same coverage for your vehicle. Compare the differences between the monthly ESA subscription and the two-year ESA below:

With the introduction of a monthly subscription for the Extended Service Agreement, long-term vehicle coverage is more accessible and flexible for our vehicle owners. The ESA subscription allows more vehicle owners to have direct control of additional coverage beyond a large up-front cost.
If you purchased a two-year ESA, beginning in late July, you will be offered a three-month extension of your ESA. You will be notified once the option to subscribe is available to you.
Yes. You can request for a refund in the Tesla app if your Extended Service Agreement has not yet started. If you are planning to sell your vehicle but want to cancel your Extended Service Agreement, you must complete the cancelation process before transferring the vehicle to its new owner.

If your Extended Service Agreement coverage has not yet started, cancel your Extended Service Agreement by following these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

Tap ‘Upgrades’ > ‘Manage’ > ‘Extended Service Agreement.’

Tap ‘Request Refund.’

Follow the prompt to complete your cancelation.

You will have the option to subscribe to the ESA at any time prior to your Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty expiration.

If your Extended Service Agreement coverage has started, you may request to cancel your Extended Service Agreement by completing the Extended Service Agreement Cancelation Form (wet signature required) and submitting the completed form to your nearest Tesla Service Center. The amount refunded will be pro-rated based on a few factors including claim history and remaining term balance. Once completed, you will not be able to subscribe to the ESA. Additional information can be found in the ‘Cancelation’ section of your ESA Terms and Conditions.
Depending on your Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty expiration date, you may be eligible to subscribe to the ESA.

If your Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty expired between May 19, 2025 and June 19, 2025, you qualify for a 30-day grace period to subscribe. You can check eligibility directly in the Tesla app. You have until July 18, 2025 or until the end of your 30-day grace period, whichever comes first, to subscribe to the ESA. After that, a paid inspection may be required to become eligible for an ESA subscription.

If your Basic or Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty expired before May 19, 2025, you may be eligible for the ESA subscription after passing a paid vehicle inspection. Beginning on July 17th, Tesla will notify you if a paid vehicle inspection is available to you. Your vehicle must be under 5 years and 62,500 miles to be eligible for a paid inspection.

If eligible, you can schedule an inspection from the Tesla app by following these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

Tap ‘Upgrades’ > ‘Service Plans’ > ‘Extended Service Agreement.’

If you are eligible, you will see an option to schedule a paid vehicle inspection.

If your vehicle passes inspection and meets all other criteria, you will be eligible to subscribe to the ESA for up to 30 days or 1,000 miles after your scheduled appointment. Any outstanding items that are identified during inspection will need to be resolved prior to obtaining the ESA subscription.
