Tesla Electric Drive Plan

Tesla Electric offers a home electricity plan for Tesla vehicle owners. The Tesla Electric Drive plan gives customers the opportunity to lower the cost of vehicle ownership and power their homes with clean electricity. Simply plug in your vehicle between midnight and noon and enjoy unlimited, home charging for a low fixed monthly fee. The Drive plan also allows you to power your home and charge your vehicles throughout the day at a low, flat rate. Currently, the Tesla Electric Drive plan is only available in areas of Texas where customers can choose their home electricity provider.

To get started, tap the menu in the top-right corner of the Tesla app. Select the ‘Discover’ tab and locate the Tesla Electric card. Once you tap the card, you will see a general overview of Tesla Electric and can sign up.

How It Works

Once you have started your Tesla Electric service, Tesla measures the energy that you use to charge your vehicles and to power your home.

With the Tesla Electric Drive plan, you will:

Pay a low fixed monthly fee for vehicle charging sessions during charging hours of midnight and noon
Pay a flat home electricity rate for vehicle charging sessions between noon and midnight
Pay a flat home electricity rate for energy used to power your home for a 12-month term

How to Take Advantage of Unlimited Charging

With the Tesla Electric Drive plan, you will always pay the same fixed fee, no matter how much you charge your vehicle during the charging hours. Take full advantage by making sure your vehicle is set to schedule charging. If your vehicle is not set to schedule charging, a reminder will appear on the charging card while your vehicle is charging. You can also monitor how much your vehicle has charged through the ‘Charge Stats’ card in the Tesla app.

Understanding Your Tesla Electric Bill

Your bill will reflect the following:

Daytime energy usage: Energy used to charge your vehicle energy from noon to midnight
Charging hours energy usage: Unlimited vehicle charging fee
Home energy usage: Energy used to power your home
TDSP charges: Transmission and Delivery (TDSP) fees
Taxes

For each vehicle enrolled in the Drive plan, you will pay a low fixed monthly fee. This fee will cover all vehicle charging performed during charging hours of midnight – noon (shown as a $0/kWh rate). It will also cover any TDSP fees associated with the unlimited charging period.

Energy used to power your home throughout the day and charge your vehicle outside the unlimited charging hours will appear on the bill at the usual home electricity rate. This also includes any associated TDSP charges.

To sign up with Tesla Electric, your vehicle must have software version 2023.20.4 or higher. Learn how you can check your vehicle’s current software version.

To make sure you get the latest updates, select ‘ADVANCED’ to receive software updates as soon as they become available for your vehicle configuration and region and make sure your vehicle has a stable Wi-Fi connection so that it can download the latest software updates.

Tesla Electric is compatible with vehicles featuring the Intel Atom or the AMD Ryzen processors in their infotainment computer. To see which infotainment processor your vehicle uses, tap ‘Controls’ > ‘Software’ > ‘Additional Vehicle Information’ on your vehicle infotainment screen.

Note: To access unlimited charging, enable data sharing on your Tesla vehicle’s touchscreen and ensure that your charging location is connected to the utility meter linked to your Tesla Electric enrollment.
Your ESI-ID is a 17- or 22-digit number that identifies your electrical service location. This number is unique to your home. You can find your ESI-ID on your current electricity provider’s utility bills. If you can’t find a good match for your address when signing up for Tesla Electric, you can enter your ESI-ID manually. If your ESI-ID does not return a match, then you are not eligible to sign up with Tesla Electric at this time.

Payments and Electricity Rates Show All Hide All

You can expect your first billing statement shortly after we receive your first monthly meter reading. Generally, we’ll receive your first monthly meter reading within 30 days of your service start date. If you switch to Tesla Electric towards the end of your billing cycle, it may take slightly longer. Your monthly meter reading tells electricity providers how much energy you have used.
These are the charges that come from your local Transmission Distribution Service Provider (TDSP). They are also known as your utility company or Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU). The TDSP charges are a mix of consumption-based fees and standard monthly charges. You’ll see these two types of charges itemized on your billing statement. TDSP charges may fluctuate depending on your usage and if your local utility company increases or decreases their fees.
