Powerwall is a rechargeable home battery that lets you store solar energy generated during the day and use it to power your home at night. You can also set Powerwall to keep energy in reserve to back up your home in the event of a utility power outage. With its built-in battery inverter, Powerwall is compact and easy to integrate into your home. Over-the-air updates give you access to new features as they become available.
Use Powerwall with solar to reduce reliance on the grid and independently power your home from solar day and night.
Protect your home from a power outage with seamless and reliable backup power.
Time-of-Use Load Shifting
Reduce your electricity bill, if your utility offers a time-of-use rate plan. (available at a later date by an over-the-air update)
Home Energy Control
Manage and control your home energy use in real time with the Tesla mobile app.
A self-powered home is one that runs on Powerwall and solar, giving you the ability to own your energy and reduce your reliance on the grid. Solar typically generates more energy than your house can immediately use. Powerwall stores that excess solar energy and makes it available on demand, even after the sun has set. This stored energy can then independently power your home and charge your electric vehicle. Through the Tesla mobile app, you will have full visibility and control over your self-powered home.
Tesla Mobile App
The Tesla mobile app allows you to have full visibility into your self-powered home. You can monitor your home solar generation, battery power flow, and household consumption in real-time from anywhere.
Automatically Back Up Your Home During an Outage
Powerwall can detect an outage, disconnect from the grid, and bring power back to your home in a fraction of a second. By reacting more than 100 times faster than typical standby generators, Powerwall can keep your appliances running without interruption.
Whole Home Backup
Tesla will recommend the number of Powerwalls needed to back up your entire home. You can add more Powerwalls to keep your house operational during longer outages.
Essential Load Backup
If your electrical situation doesn’t allow for a whole home backup, you can back up selected essential loads such as lights and outlets. Since these require less power, a single Powerwall will typically be sufficient.
The Powerwall system consists of the Powerwall unit and supporting hardware called the Backup Gateway. For whole home backup, an upgrade to your main electrical panel may be needed to integrate Powerwall. For essential load backup, a secondary electrical panel is usually required to separate out the essential loads.
What to expect
Place a $500 deposit to get started. Tesla will contact you to learn more about your home energy needs and determine the right Powerwall system for you.
Home Energy Assessment
To prepare for your installation, we will assess the best location for Powerwall and determine the appropriate supporting hardware. This can either be done over the phone, where we will guide you to take specific photos of your home energy equipment, or we can send an electrician to conduct an in-person site visit.
Review your Powerwall agreement
Your agreement, sent by email, includes your final hardware and installation pricing for your Powerwall system. A Tesla product specialist will call you to review the agreement and answer any questions. You can also reach us at 725.333.7731.
