Tesla Financing for Solar

We offer the ability to pay for your solar purchase over time through a retail installment contract with Tesla Financing.

Getting Started

Design your Tesla solar system and select 'Loan’ as your payment method.

After you have placed your order, complete the necessary action items in your Tesla Account. Once you review and accept your design, you will be presented with a credit application after which a hard credit check will be pulled.

Tesla Financing

After placing an order, sign into your Tesla Account to finalize your design and payment method.

To qualify for Tesla Financing, your installation must be in one of the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, MA, MD, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, PA, RI, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA.

Submit a Credit Application

  1. In the 'Pricing Details' section of your Tesla Account, view the payment options available to you.
  2. Select 'Loan.'

 

Note: You must be over the age of 18 and have a social security number to submit a credit application. Review the price details and confirm the amount to finance and your preferred monthly payment.

Accept and Submit Credit Check

Complete your application by submitting your date of birth, social security number, phone number and employment and title information.

Installation

Your Retail Installment Contract will be available for you to sign in the ‘Documents’ section of your Tesla Account prior to scheduling your installation. You will be required to sign any required documents in your Tesla Account prior to scheduling your installation.

Making Payments

The amount and due date of your payments are outlined in your Retail Installment Contract. You can find a copy of your Retail Installment Contract in the ‘Documents’ section of your Tesla Account.

You will receive an email when your account has been activated. There are multiple ways to make your monthly payments. Payment is accepted online, by mail or by phone. Your first payment is due 35 days from your Permission to Operate (PTO) date and your monthly payment will be due on that same date going forward each month.

Finance Payoff

There are no prepayment penalties associated with Tesla Financing. When Tesla customers sell their homes, we’ve historically transferred the solar agreement to the new owner in about 98% of cases. However, the financing associated is not transferable. Our Customer Support team can assist in providing you with any documentation required to include the finance payoff in the sale of the home.

Payment Options

There are multiple ways to make your payments. Payment is accepted online, by mail or by phone.

Pay Online

Set up automatic payments, make one-time payments and enroll in paperless billing directly in your Tesla Account.

To manage your autopay settings and/or enroll in paperless billing:

  1. Sign into your Tesla Account.
  2. Next to your energy product, select 'Manage.'
  3. Select the 'Loan Details' dropdown arrow.
  4. Select 'More Details.'
  5. In the Payment section, select 'Manage.'
     

To make a one-time payment:

  1. Sign into your Tesla Account.
  2. Next to your energy product, select 'Manage.'
  3. Select the 'Loan Details' dropdown arrow.
  4. Select 'More Details.'
  5. In the Payment section, select 'Make a Payment.'


Mail a Check

Send payments via check to the address listed on your monthly billing statement. Please allow for mail delivery timelines and include your EN Account Number in the check memo.

Pay by Phone

Call us to make a payment over the phone. You will need your EN Account Number, bank routing and checking account number. Payments by credit card are not accepted.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start the credit application?

You can apply when confirming your payment details. The credit approvals are valid up to 180 days. If your installation date falls after your credit application expires, you may need to start a new application.

Who can apply?

Tesla Financing for solar is available for applicants in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, MA, MD, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, PA, RI, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA.

The name on the credit application must match the name on the property title. Unfortunately, business, trust and commercial finance applications are not accepted at this time.

Are there fees to submitting a credit application?

No. There are no lender or application fees to apply for financing.

Will there be a hard pull of my credit?

At least one hard pull of your credit report is required; however, additional inquiries may be needed for some applicants.

Can I get pre-approved for financing before I configure and order my solar system?

Tesla does not currently offer a credit pre-approval process. You may, however, seek pre-approval through your own bank. Otherwise, you’ll be able to submit a credit application in your Tesla Account once your payment details are accepted.

Do I need to unfreeze or unlock my credit?

Tesla recommends you lift all credit freezes you currently have in place with all credit bureaus. It is best to unlock your credit file prior to submitting your credit application to avoid any delays.

How do I unfreeze my credit?

You will need to contact Transunion directly.

We suggest lifting all credit freezes for at least seven days. Please keep in mind, however, that if a credit approval expires prior to your installation date, credit freezes may need to be lifted again if a new application is required.

How long do credit decisions take? How can I check the status of my application?

Many credit decisions are available within a few minutes, with most available within 48 hours. However, some may occasionally take longer due to unforeseen circumstances.

You can check the status of your application in your Tesla Account. Once a credit decision has been made, you'll be notified in your account.

How do I update my billing address?
